About a two and a half years ago I was in Austin, TX, for work and I happened into a little boutique on South Congress Avenue. The selection of jewelry knocked my socks off, especially the numerous options containing Druzy, a stone I love, of course, because of its sparkly nature. I bought a necklace feeling pretty special about my discovery of this new, unique brand. Flash forward two years and Kendra Scott style seems to have taken over with Richmond getting our very own boutique earlier this summer.
If you haven’t shopped this beautiful jewelry brand yet—or even if you have—mark your calendar for September 15th when Kendra Scott Short Pump will be hosting a combination grand opening party and fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m.
Check out the shiny new shop, enjoy snacks and sweets including my favorite Sugar Soiree cotton candy cart, listen to live music by Jocelyn Oldham, and buy all your favorite pieces because 20 percent of all proceeds from the evening will go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond in honor of Katie Whatley, a 7-year-old who was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on January 24th, 2015.
Katie’s father is an active duty U.S. Marine. After he was assigned to Norfolk, Va., the family was in the area looking for housing when Katie had trouble breathing and experienced a loss of appetite. Her parents took her to the emergency room where the doctors found masses in her lungs, liver and spleen and she was transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. When Katie was hospitalized and her family needed a place to stay, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond, a nonprofit that provides away-from-home housing for seriously ill children and their families, came to the rescue. Learn more about Katie here.
For this event, Katie went to the Short Pump Town Center store and designed a Courage for Katie necklace featuring rose quartz, which is believed to be a healing stone. The necklace is $50 and can be purchased through September 9 by filling out this form or calling the Short Pump Store. You can pick the necklace up at the event or have it shipped to you free of charge.
