Drink Pink During Rosé Sundays at Pasture in Richmond, VA

Maybe someday it will be Spring in Richmond, VA. Or it will jump from winter directly into 80 degree days. Living in the South is so fun. Well, whatever the weather, Pasture is giving you an excuse to sip pink wine like it’s a perfect spring or summer day with Rosé Sundays.

Rosé Sundays at Pasture

Every Sunday, the restaurant offers a special menu of discounted rosés by the glass from 4 to 9 p.m. You are encouraged to enjoy them on the patio when the weather is nice. Or inside when the weather is not nice. The specials may change, but on my recent visit, I snagged sips of a few rosés from the current menu.

The Santola Vinho Verde Rosé possessed the slight effervescence that is characteristic of vinho verdes along with dense cherry and strawberry flavors. This one was intensely fruity, but not sweet—perfect for hot patio drinking. The Jean Leon 3055 from Spain possessed lots of raspberry and peach flavors—it was also wonderfully dry and fruity. Lastly, the Domaine Fonsante Gris de Gris was the lightest of the three and possessed citrus notes along with fresh berry flavors. All were delicious—you really couldn’t go wrong!

And, to make things more festive, Pasture’s bar manager Beth Dixon is adding a rosé-centric special each week as well. For the first week it was frosé—a frozen blend of rose, strawberries, ice, and just a hint of simple syrup that added a touch of sweetness, but still allowed the flavor of the rosé to come through. She’s also offered rosé flights at the request of several customers. Future Rosé Sundays might include additional rosé cocktails, more flights, and once it heats up, expect the frosé to return.

What To Eat With Rosé

One of the great things about rosé is its versatility and ability to pair with lighter, more delicate flavors as well as heavier sauces and spices. Dixon says some of her favorite Pasture dishes that pair well with rosé include ham-cured pork ribs, curry-fried chicken livers, pan-seared fish with creamed farro and citrus-fennel salad, grilled pork chop with South Carolina BBQ sauce, and Pasture’s newest vegetarian entrée, smoked tofu jambalaya. Who’s hungry?
