Following my post about the shift dress, I wanted to touch on another of my favorite summer wardrobe staples: the crochet-top dress. It’s not that different from the shift: the simple, slightly flowy style makes it easy for most figures to pull off. However, the addition of a crocheted (or lace, or whatever strikes your fancy) top makes the dress even more flattering because it shows off a naturally slim part of your figure and draws the eye up.
I recently purchased the pictured Unforgettable Black Lace Dress ($48) from LuLus.com and love the simple shape and unique detailing of the floral lace neckline. Lulus has a few other cute takes on this style.
This Hot Sands Cream Crochet Shift Dress ($45) combines crochet detailing with the popular off-the-shoulder style that’s showing up everywhere this season.
And this Total Flirt Marsala Shift Dress ($57) is a pretty color.
If you have a slim figure, try this Chelsea28 Bow Back Floral Crochet Lace Shift Dress (on sale for $100.80 at Nordstrom). I love the floral appliques, but suspect the look would go best on straighter figures.
This Catherine Malandrino ‘Mel’ Lace Babydoll Dress (on sale for $76.80 at Nordstrom) has a slightly more forgiving shape and sleeves for my friends who prefer concealing their upper arms.
I snagged this Show Me Your Mumu Eden Babydoll Dress ($136) at local shop Nellie George. It is lightweight and super comfortable with ample lining to not be see-through, plus the day I wore it I got stopped by about five different people asking where I found it. It’s also available in black.
This Lilly Pulitzer “Rachelle” Macrame and Crepe Swing Dress ($178) from Nordstrom extremely similar, but available in the above Pink Sun Ray, along with Navy and White.
For a non-white and more affordable option, try this American Rag Shift Dress ($40) from Macy’s. It also comes in pink.
This Club L Plus Skate Dress with Crochet Top (on sale for $41) is more fitted, but if you have an hour-glass figure like the model, it could be extremely flattering. And on this site, “plus size” means size 12-24, so don’t be afraid to check it out if you fall within that range.
