Ah, the floral maxi dress. Such a pretty trend, but so challenging to pull off. The wrong cut and you look like you’re wearing a mumu. The wrong print and you like like you’re wearing a nightgown. I’ve been trying on printed maxis all season long and finally found the perfect one. So, why is this Feeling Serene Maxi Dress in Cherry Blossoms from ModCloth.com so special?
First, the cut. The wide sleeves and kimono styling make for a balanced silhouette that is sophisticated, classic and very non-pajama. Second, the cherry blossom pattern is floral, but unexpected and not something you see on every dress at the mall. Third, the length is just right. It can be worn with heels, as shown above, or actually can work with flip flops if necessary. And lastly, I just love the bright blue shade. It’s eye catching without being overly obnoxious.
Along with my beloved Cherry Blossom print, the dress is available in three other colors. I was also tempted by Evening, which has a more Japanese vibe.

What to Wear With Your Feeling Serene Maxi Dress:
I accessorized my Feeling Serene dress with gold and pink accessories to complement the colors in the dress. Suggestions include:
($39) from Lulus.com
Ideally, the shoes should add a hint of metallic without distracting from the dress and should give you a bit of height without being overwhelming.
(On sale for $69.99, originally $175), from LordandTaylor.com
A statement necklace with pink or rose gold tones echoes the colors of the dress without drawing too much attention away from the print.
Oversized Bling Watch($275), from Nordstrom
In order to keep the outfit from going too girly, I added my Michael Kors rose gold watch, which is oversized with a slightly menswear-inspired design.
($189), from AwlSnap.com
This locally made bag is perfect because it’s a bit larger than your average cross body, so you can throw in a few more essentials (a.k.a. lip glosses if you’re me), but it’s still not so large that you’re carrying a tote bag around. Plus the suede keeps the look less formal.
